Another Way of Looking at the Arizona Tragedy

A full day after the lunatic in Tuscon lashed out against innocents I still have trouble locating all of the facts of the story. It may be several days yet before the dust settles and truth is more clearly defined. What was immediately apparent is that many were eager to use the tragedy as a platform for finger pointing at entire groups of Americans.This shooter does not represent a group, he was just a psycho that acted either on his own or with one other psycho. The liberals do not seek to train or empower such people and neither do those of us on the right. Sometimes a nut is just a nut.
The irresponsible socialist liberals in our media were immediately ranting about Sarah Palin and the Tea Party people for instigating this mans acts. Within hours it became obvious the gunman is a lefty but the attacks against the right continued. It is disgusting to see how this is playing out but everyone is writing about that so I’ll not be redundant.
Throughout the day the news came to me in a scrambled mess of tidbits and rumors. While the details were sketchy, the reaction was very clear. I get info and contacts from all across this nation, from both the right and left. We get hundreds of emails daily and yesterday was more than we could process. The trends were surprising. It was not just the media monkeys blaming Sarah, the Tea Parties and the right in general. It was almost every lefty I heard from. Regular people-on-the-street type liberals. Almost immediately we began to receive messages asking if I was proud of our right wing terrorists etc. The response from the left was to blame us and demand more controls on our speech and gun Rights. They instantly sought to use the unfolding news as leverage for limiting our Constitutional Rights.
We also received many messages from those who are solidly on the right. The difference in the tone was amazing. My friends on the right were reminding all to pray for the victims. They were asking everyone to remember there were more victims than the 2 high profile public figures. They were offering heartfelt condolences to the family members of all and many were horribly shattered by the death of the poor little 9 year old girl, Christina-Taylor Green. A few were politicizing it but very few. Most were warning about jumping to conclusions before the facts were straight. While the socialists were fanning the flames of division the Con-Pats were calling for patience and sanity.
So, the left was ranting and positioning for use of the tragedy while the right was praying and offering condolences. Once again I was reminded of why I am proud to be an active member of the right.
I thank-you all for the decency shown when it mattered. I am proud to live in a nation that produces such people. I am proud to call them friends.
Other crimes of a political nature may occur because the tension level in this nation is extremely high. I hope not but this is a big nation with many crazy people. In times of national tragedy it is manifest that we allow the better angels of our nature guide us. We cannot let events snowball past their beginnings.
The talking heads are now trying to decide what this crime says about our nation. I have yet to hear one get it right. What this tells me about our nation is the tension is building to the point where the nuts can no longer take it. One of our weak links just snapped.
This is life in Obama’s America, “Obamica.” The socialist liberals who desire the destruction of our capitalist system and Constitutional Republic have a their man in the White House and they know if they fail now they may never see such an opportunity again. The rebellion against Obama’s change is building to a roar and this is very troubling for them. They are feeling threatened and the fear is turning into anger in many of them. That is what gave us the Tuscon tragedy.
The Con-Pats are worried too and they have good reason to be. They are finally starting to realize that the elections of 2010 were too little, too late. Congress may be able to slowly chip around the edges of Obama’s accomplishments but it will be a long bitter battle of limited success. Meanwhile, Obama is still busy and the dismantling of our economy, Rights, our oil industry and national security continue. This truth is creating a great deal of stress for Patriots and when people look for a solution, none seem to be available. Waiting for 2012 is all they’ve got and too much permanent damage can occur long before then. Thus, the fear and anger from the right builds too.
This is Obama’s America. For a man who was elevated as a hotshot community organizer, he is absolutely failing in organizing or uniting this country. Obama’s America is one where all people are now under a great deal of stress regarding the future. He is extremely, and deliberately divisive yet he is not able to bring a sense of hope to either side of America’s social fabric. Everyone is tense. Everyone is unhappy with the current status of this nation, Obama’s America is a shambles.
The situation is bad and needs a strong confident leader advising calm and providing a vision for better times to come. Instead, Obama makes completely foolish incendiary comments such as a Republican win would bring hand to hand combat at the Capital. He also met with black community and religious leaders in September and advised them to go to their neighborhoods and tell all to be ready to “guard the change” as Republican seek to unravel his destructive policies. This sort of nonsense coming from any national figure is irresponsible. Coming from a sitting President they are dangerous. To carelessly use terms that a nut can misconstrue as a call to violence is absolutely unacceptable from a President. Obama’s America is a powder keg. We just witnessed an eruption and the next few news cycles will be spent investigating where the spark came from. I think it is more important to ask how we became a powder keg and what can be done to back us out of the situation. Why is our wonderful nation now in such a state of confusion and fear? The sounds of gunfire are now silent in Tuscon but the tensions and concerns that become over-powering for the crazy few are still in place.
This is Obama’s America.

A classmate of the man accused of shooting Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords this morning describes him as “left wing” and a “pot head” in a series of posts on Twitter this afternoon.
Caitie Parker did not immediately respond to our request for an interview, but her “tweets” in the hours after the shooting paint a picture of Jared Loughner as a substance-abusing loner who had met Giffords before the shooting. She says, Loughner described the congresswoman as “stupid and unintelligent.”
We’ve confirmed that Parker and Loughner went to school together at Mountain View High School in Tucson and that both attended Pima Community College, so her claims of knowing Loughner seem to be legit.
Parker “tweets” that she and Loughner were in the band together and were friends until 2007 when he became “reclusive” after getting alcohol poisoning and dropping out of college.
She describes him as “quite liberal” and as a “political radical.”

We’ve contacted Parker to try to get more information about Loughner. We’ll let you know if she gets back to us.

Megyn Kelly confronts Sheriff Clarence Dupnik over his attempts to politicize the mass shooting in Arizona that left six people dead. Dupnik has been trying to link the shooting to “vitriol” coming from talk radio and “bigotry that goes on in this country.”

Five Criminal Charges Filed Against Jared Lee Loughner
Charges have been filed against Jared Lee Loughner in federal court in Arizona:
Ct. 1: 18:351C.F–Congressional, Attempt To Kill;All of the charges related to distinctly federal aspects of the murders of Congresswoman Giffords and her staff, and federal Judge Roll, all of whom were performing their official duties at the time. (See below as to why Judge Roll was at the event). This federal complaint does not address the others killed, so we can expect state charges as well.
Ct. 2: 18:1114 and 1111–Murder First Degree;
Ct. 3: 18:1114 and 1111–Murder First Degree;
Ct. 4: 18:1114 and 1113–Attempted Murder;
Ct. 5: 18:1114 and 1113–Attempted Murder

“On January 9,2011, your affiant spoke with U.S. Marshal David Gonzales, who stated that the Honorable John M. Roll, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, had worked with Congresswoman Giffords within the last several months to resolve issues related to the volume of cases filed in the District of Arizona. Judge Roll was notified about Congresswoman Giffords’ event telephonically on or about January 7, 2011. Having spoken to Pia Carusone, the Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Giffords in Washington D.C., U.S. Marshal Gonzales reports that Ron Barber, a staff person for Congresswoman Giffords who was present at the event, stated that Judge Roll attended the event and sought to speak to Congresswoman Giffords, and spoke with Mr. Barber about issues related to the volume of federal cases in the District of Arizona; Judge Roll expressed his appreciation to Mr. Barber for the help and support that Congresswoman Giffords had given. Your affiant reviewed a digital surveillance video depicting the events at the Safeway; in the video, Judge Roll is seen speaking for several minutes with Mr. Barber.”A letter was found at Loughner’s home, marked “I planned ahead” and “my assassination” (emphasis mine):
“On January 8, 2011, a search warrant was executed at 7741 N. Soledad Avenue in Tucson, Arizona, where LOUGHNER resides. Some of the evidence seized from that location included a letter in a safe, addressed to “Mr. Jared Loughney” at 7741 N. Soledad Avenue, from Congresswoman Giffords, on Congressional stationary, dated August 30, 2007, thanking him for attending a “Congress on your Corner” event at the Foothills Mall in Tucson. Also recovered in the safe was an envelope with handwriting on the envelope stating “I planned ahead,” and “My assassination” and the name “Giffords,” along with what appears to be LOUGHNER’s signature.”Here is the Complaint and accompanying affidavit:

The identity of the 9-year-old tragically killed in this morning’s deadly rampage is Christina Taylor Greene.
Family says she was vibrant, excited about life, and she was the “best daughter in the world.”
Born on September 11, 2001, Greene was excited about the political process, was on the student government, and went to the Giffords event today to learn more about the political process, family members say.
Greene attended Mesa Verde Elementary School. She was the only girl on the CDO baseball team – she loved the sport, as well as horseback riding and swimming.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of the six people killed in this morning’s tragic shooting.
-John Roll, 63, a federal district court judge.
-Gabriel Zimmerman, 30, Giffords’ director of community outreach
-Dorwin Stoddard, 76, a pastor at Mountain Ave. Church of Christ.
-Christina Greene, 9, a student at Mesa Verde Elementary
-Dorthy Murray, 76
-Phyllis Scheck, 79

Christina Taylor Green, nine-year-old victim in today’s Tucson shootings, once was an infant designated to be a “Face of Hope” by virtue of her birth on September 11, 2001. She was one of the children born on 9/11, reports Tucson blogger David Abie Morales. She is featured in the book by Christine Pisera Naman, entitled Faces of Hope, Babies Born on 9/11, dedicated to all the mother who gave birth and to their babies born on the day the World Trade Towers in New York City were taken down in an act of terrorism.
Ironically, today her life ended in violence, as she fell under the attack of a gunman at a political function at a supermarket.
A neighbor was going to the Giffords event today, the Arizona Republic reports, and invited Christina along simply because she thought she would enjoy it, according to Christina’s uncle, Greg Segalini. Christina was newly elected to the student council at her school.
The event, an opportunity for constituents to meet Giffords and discuss any concerns they had related to the federal government, was an outdoor family friendly event.
A talented girl, Christina Green participated in many activities, ranging from ballet to baseball.

I am from the Tucson area and live in Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords’ district. I worked like a dog for her elections when she was in the Arizona House, surrounded by rightwing nutcases. When Arizona re-districted in 2002, a seat opened up and she was right smack in the middle of it. So was I because I live in Oro Valley, Arizona, which is at the heart of that – then – new CD. I was one of several people to talk her into running and pledging complete loyalty and pledging to raise as much money as possible for her.
She ended up running for the first time against a fellow AZ House member, Randy Graf who was a rightwing whacko who advocated guns in bars and was the “Russell Pearce before Russell Pearce” vis-a-vis border issues. With a LOT of hard work and plenty of money, Gabby won. Easier than thought, too. I never like to throw money in people’s faces, but i have given Gabrielle Giffords THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars in both good times and bad times for me financially.

Fast forward to this election season. A weirdo asshole named Jesse Kelly who advocated ELIMINATING Social Security and was a tea bagger favorite got the GOP nom to run against her. I am gay and had been married and my spouse left me January 15, 2010. I shot myself in the mouth in a serious suicide attempt, because of that. Barely surviving, I spent two months in the hospital and still have some paralysis. I did receive a severance from my employer, as i had been laid off in December, 2009. That may have been part of the reason my spouse left me.
Anyway, after months of physical and mental rehab, I got back into the political scene and started working for Gabby once again. I raised over $100,000 for her and maxed her out myself out of my severance, even though i still don’t have work and could not qualify for state aid because of my severance.
She wins her re-election and told me she was still a supporter of Speaker Pelosi at her victory party. We talked about how Nancy Pelosi was a successful woman and accomplished oh so much in just four years as Speaker.
Today, just a little while ago, I saw on Andrea Mitchell Reports (out of the one eye in can still see out of) that Giffords voted AGAINST Nancy Pelosi as our Minority Leader. Rhetorical question: I fought back from my condition and jumped in with both feet to help Gabrielle Giffords for THIS shit???
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is dead to me now. I won’t lift a finger, make one phone call, nor will i EVER vote for her in the future. And why did she do this? Giffords never told me she was conservative Democrat. And her voting record is okay. Damn.

Loughner was described by eyewitnesses at the Arizona shooting as a young white man who looked like a “fringe character,” in his mid-to-late 20s, clean-shaven with short hair and wearing dark clothing.
Loughner shot Giffords and some 12 others at a public event at a Safeway grocery store in Tucscon. He reportedly shot the congresswoman “point blank” in the head and may have come from inside the store. He attempted to flee after running out of ammunition and was tackled by one of Giffords’ staffers.
A MySpace page belonging to a “Jared Lee Loughner,” age 22, of Tucson, was taken down. A YouTube account also exists in his name.

A gunman indiscriminately fired into a crowd at a gathering for Democratic representative Gabrielle Giffords outside a Safeway in Tucson, Arizona this morning. Giffords and at least five others were shot, according to NPR. The gunman was tackled and arrested.
Update: Giffords has died, according to Reuters.
We spoke to an eyewitness, Steven Rayle who was on the scene at the time of the shooting and helped to hold the suspect down while waiting for police. Here’s what he said:
The event was very informal: Gifford had set up a table outside the Safeway and about 20-30 people were gathered to talk to her. The gunman, who may have come from inside the Safeway, walked up and shot Gifford in the head first. According to Rayle, who is a former ER doctor, Gifford was able to move her hands after being shot.
After shooting Gifford, the gunman opened fire indiscriminately for a few seconds, hitting a number of people, including a kid no older than 10 years old. Rayle hid behind a concrete pole and pretended to be dead. When the gunman apparently ran out of ammunition he attempted to flee, but a member of Gifford’s staff tackled him. Rayle helped hold the gunman down while waiting for the sheriff to arrive, about 15-or 20 minutes later. 30 minutes later the EMS came. Rayle said he was “stunned” by how long it took medical help to arrive.
The man was young, mid-to-late 20s, white, clean-shaven with short hair and wearing dark clothing and said nothing during the shooting or while being held down. He didn’t look like a businessman, but more of a “fringe character,” Rayle said.
CNN is reporting that at least 12 were wounded.

At least five other people, including members of her staff, were hurt. Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known.
Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up firing indiscriminately and then ran off, Michaels said. According to other witnesses, he was tackled by a bystander and taken into custody.
Giffords was first elected to represent Arizona’s 8th District in 2006. The “Congress on Your Corner” events allow constituents to present their concerns directly to her.
